A new phenomenon is occurring amongst modern day health enthusiasts and it is quite the anthisesis of healthy. It is called Orthorexia and it is now loosely categorized as a full fledged eating disorder. This is a very interesting subject because anyone who spends time trying to avoid eating unhealthy additives, sugars, oils, etc. can find this to be very challenging, especially if one is working, running around and having to eat food outside of the house. It takes a tremendous amount of home preparation and time to always have healthy food ready to eat, whether you are in or out of the house.
It is also very trendy now to adhere to strict diets based on various philosophies, such as eating all food raw, or eating a totally vegan or vegetarian diet. Then there are the gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, soy-free, nut-free, diets. It would be very difficult to report accurate numbers when it comes to Orthorexia, because typically these are not the same people that are being admitted to hospitals or running into Dr's offices with major health issues. In fact it is usually quite the opposite. Orthorexics can often misleadingly appear to be the picture of health with healthy exercise routines, healthy lifestyle choices and healthy eating habits. After all, anyone who focuses time and energy on eating healthy will probably be able to relate, at least a little bit, with the feelings true "Orthorexics" face. So what is really going on with this new category of obsessive eaters that a whole new term needed to be coined? Read the Entire Article Here
